Jeremy Matthew Berry will be forever remembered and honored for the love and kindness he freely gave and received, and his many years of courage in the face of illness. We are grateful to him for his selflessness in giving us that time.
Born November 1, 1966, he was the youngest of five siblings, Denise (“Dee Dee”) Kaufman, who died April 10, 2024, Bridget Ann Berry, Katherine Berry Sisson, and Richard Michael Berry. He suffered the loss of his father Richard A. Berry on January 24, 1995, and his mother Adele G. Berry on August 1, 2022. On August 25, 2024, Jeremy lost his nephew, Daniel Contreras. Throughout his life, Jeremy mourned the passing of close friends. There is peace and joy in knowing Jeremy was reunited with all of them in time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in heaven.
Jeremy was born at St. Mary’s Hospital, and attended Faith Lutheran Kindergarten, then St. Clare Catholic School and Cardinal Newman High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business at FSU and became a passionate life-long FSU Seminole fan. He was a financial advisor at A.G. Edwards and Merrill Lynch and a banker at Wachovia Wells Fargo. More recently he worked in several service industries.
From birth, Jeremy never met a stranger. He was joyful, audacious, and mischievous. As a child, he was a frequent visitor to the principal’s office. Jeremy was impossible not to love. His smile was quick and easy, and he gave delightful bear hugs. We will all forever recall his respect for others, his generous spirit, and his love for animals.
He was an excellent listener. He never judged. He was humble. His door was always open. He lived much of his life serving others. He saw only the best in people. He loved deeply. He valued his family, friends, and communities throughout his life, and they gave freely and unconditionally to him, which speaks volumes about his character and theirs. He knew he was loved. He was grateful. He appreciated everyone who helped him and treasured the thoughtful words of encouragement from his family and his friends, including those at Publix, Conviva, and the Meadows. He was nourished by the love shared with him through cards, calls, visits, and social media messages. He asked for forgiveness, wished he could have done more, and asked for understanding.
Jeremy held his Cardinal Newman and FSU friends close throughout his life. He made decades of FSU weekends forever memories for his many nieces and nephews, and he continued to escort Dee Dee through their traditional FSU itinerary for many, many weekends thereafter.
Jeremy was devoted to his family. He gave constant love and support to his siblings and their families, possibly at the sacrifice of his own relationships. He was always present for his nieces and nephews, and then their children, and adored each of them. He was there for them through challenging times, and cheered them on at every school play, every sacrament and rite of passage and every sports activity. He celebrated every birthday party and every holiday he could with them. He was fun and he brought humor and excitement to all celebrations.
Jeremy is loved and honored by his sister Katherine, her husband, Kevin Sisson, niece Kaitlyn, her husband Levi Hudlow and son, Lincoln; sister Bridget, her husband Blas Contreras, and their children and families, niece Christina, Josh Tonnesen and son Landon, nephew Daniel, and nephew and godson Anthony; his brother, Michael, his wife Marg, and their children and families: nephew and godson Mike, nephew Beau, his wife Meredith and children, Isla and Finn; nephew Quinn and his wife Mariana; nephew Luke; and niece Abby and her husband Jordan Neeld.
