

John Thomas Viggiano, age 88, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026. Born on March 11, 1938, in Auburn, New York, John was the cherished son of Anthony and Loretta Viggiano. His early years in Upstate New York were filled with family gatherings, laughter, and a deep sense of community that he carried with him throughout his life. John was known for his warmth and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a kind word with friends and neighbors.
A devoted Catholic, John was a proud member of Our Lady of Grace Church since 1989. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, providing him with strength during times of adversity and joy in moments of celebration.
John built a distinguished career as a Tool & Die Maker, sharing his expertise as both a teacher and mentor to many. He worked for several prominent manufacturing companies, earning a reputation for his meticulous craftsmanship and problem-solving skills. John was passionate about passing on his knowledge, often training new apprentices and encouraging young people to pursue careers in the skilled trades. Colleagues admired his patience, attention to detail, and willingness to go the extra mile to ensure quality work.
As a young adult, John bravely battled polio, spending over three months in an iron lung. His remarkable recovery—learning to walk, talk, and swallow again—was covered by local and national newspapers, including the Auburn Citizen. His experience contributed to advancements in polio treatment and vaccine development. John's perseverance and courage left an indelible mark, inspiring many. Despite the hardships, he never lost hope or his sense of humor, and his determination to overcome adversity was an inspiration to his family and community.
He was a loving husband, a proud and fair father, and a dedicated mentor and friend to all. John met the love of his life, Donna Ileen Viggiano after his battle with polio and together they built a strong foundation for their family. His children remember him as a patient teacher, a hardworking provider, and a source of endless encouragement. John enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was Sunday breakfast after church service, family dinners, camping, or playing with the grandchildren. He instilled values of integrity, compassion, and perseverance in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, leaving a legacy that will be cherished.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Donna Ileen (Setliff) Viggiano, his parents Anthony and Loretta, his sister Mary Ellen (Viggiano) Wilson, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is survived by his children, Sherri Viggiano, Lori (Viggiano) Miller (Grant), Norman Viggiano (Lauri), Clifford Viggiano, Brenda Viggiano, John Viggiano Jr., and Toni (Viggiano) Basore (Tobin); twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
John Thomas Viggiano will be remembered for his strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. As a mentor, neighbor, and friend, John inspired those around him to reach for their best and face challenges with courage.
A Catholic mass in memory of John will take place on May 7, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Grace Church in Palm Bay, FL. Details about a gathering after the service will be provided during the mass. Friends and family are welcome to attend, share their stories, and honor John's extraordinary life and the positive influence he had on many people.
The family will bring John and Donna home, where they will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Auburn, New York, at a date to be determined.
