Joe will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Jennifer (Bruno) Recarey, and by their minor sons, Jack Recarey and Peter Recarey, and his adult children, Isis Recarey and Joseph Recarey. In addition to his wife and children, Joe is survived by his parents, Elva and Jose Recarey of Palm Springs, FL, his sister, Liz Castellanos (Rick) of Lake Worth, FL, his in-laws, several nieces and nephews and many adoring extended family members and numerous friends.
Born on June 5, 1967 in Queens, New York, Joe moved to Florida with his family when he was 13 years old. He graduated from the Police Academy in 1990 and pursued a career in law enforcement. He joined the Palm Beach Police Department in 1991 as an officer and was promoted to police detective in 1994.
A dedicated professional, Joe was well known for his extensive knowledge and experience in interviews and interrogation and was a tenacious investigator. During his career, he worked in the police department's Organized Crime Vice and Narcotics Unit, the Department of Justice and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, and the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Public Integrity Unit. He handled high profile cases and instructed law enforcement personnel and civilian members of the community about criminal and narcotics investigations. Throughout his career, Joe received more than 150 commendations from the law enforcement community, including the Inaugural “Officer of the Year” Award by the Palm Beach Police Foundation in 2012. He was responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the security camera systems throughout the Town of Palm Beach.
Joe had many fond memories of his years with the police department, including meeting his wife, Jennifer. In 2013, Joe retired as a law enforcement officer as one of the most decorated Detectives in the history of the Palm Beach Police Department, and accepted a position to work in the private sector. He joined Gold Coast Beverage Distributors, the fourth largest beer distributor in the country as the Director of Loss Prevention. After Gold Coast was sold, Joe was again recruited to join Gold Coast Holdings as the Director of Facilities, where he was responsible for more than 90 restaurant locations and several commercial buildings.
Joe will always be remembered for his generous spirit and pursuit of justice for victims. His passion for helping others was contagious and his steadfast devotion to his family was extraordinary. Joe never missed an opportunity to make people laugh, no matter the circumstances.
