Judy was born February 25, 1926, in Newton, Massachusetts, the youngest of eight children of the late Edwin Torrey Cady and Jeanette Dow Cady. Judy was a direct descendant of William Bradford, who sailed on the Mayflower and was a Governor of Plymouth Colony. Judy grew up in Waban, Massachusetts and summered in Megansett at the Cady family home on Cape Cod. She enjoyed sailing the family Crosby on Buzzards Bay.
Upon graduating from Stephens College in 1945, Judy traveled the country as a flight attendant for American Airlines. She then moved to Florida to care for her ailing father.
Judy met Paul L. Maddock while attending a Garden Club Tour at Duck’s Nest, a family property in Palm Beach. Paul would become the love of her life. After Paul and Judy married, they lived in Palm Beach at the family residence known as Treetops. Paul brought to the marriage James, Margaret, Linda, Mimi, and Paul Jr., and the new couple had Sidney, Suzanne and Jeffrey.
Judy had a beautiful smile that lit up a room when she entered. She was lovingly known as Mom, Grammy, JuJu, Aunt Jude and Auntie Buzz. Throughout her 98 years, Judy brought love and laughter to all who knew her. Her unselfish and caring nature touched the lives of so many in countless ways.
Over the years Judy was a member of The Society of the Four Arts, The Everglades Club, the Bath & Tennis Club, The Beach Club and a lifetime member of the Sailfish Club of Florida. In Massachusetts, she was a member of the Megansett Yacht Club and a founding member of the North Falmouth Village Association.
Judy is predeceased in death by her husband, Paul L. Maddock, and James A. Maddock and Margaret K. Maddock.
