In 1977 Leonie married Raymond Benel who fathered 4 of her sons; Givenson, Raymond Jr. Denny and Kevin. Her first two sons were the products of her union with Alphonse Pascal.
Leonie became a widow in 1999 after the passing of her then husband Raymond and never remarried. She focused on raising her 3 youngest sons with whom she moved to Lake Worth Florida from Brooklyn, NY. She maintained an open door policy with her boys as she truly played the role of both mother and father in a world that increasingly made it harder to raise young black men due to the challenging social waves that came crashing at her parenral doors.
Leonie is a woman of compassion, not having a lot never stopped her from being one of the most giving person one may encounter. She also ruffled feathers in her journey but never made real enemies as even people she had clashes with realized at the end of the day, she is loving and full of care in her heart.
Leonie lived life the best way she knew and the best she could and for that, those closest to her learned to see the presence of a precious stone underneath the strong shell she often displayed.
Leonie's ethos was that she was to be earned because she knew what she was worth.
