May 17,1929 - August 16, 2025
Margot Lazarony passed peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025 in her home in West Palm Beach where she lived with her devoted daughter Angela. The family— her grandchildren and all her children, alongside their spouses, surrounded Margot with love, prayers, and song. It was a beautiful send-off, as Margot, 96, who enjoyed life with a passion, took flight on the wings of angels.
Throughout her life, Margot shared a love of books, music, laughter, and a spirit of perpetual optimism with her five children: Marquita Edwards, Renata Karlos, Rita Lazzaroni, Gregory Lazzaroni, and Angela Lazarony. She adored her five grandchildren, Marisa Dabice, Desiree Dabice, Moriah Lazzaroni, Philip Lazzaroni, Marc Lazzaroni, and her two great-grandchildren Gia Gallimore and Cairo Gallimore— all of whom brought her immense joy. Her loving daughter-in-law Mary Lazzaroni and her two sons-in-law, Philip Dabice and Peter Karlos, enjoyed Margot’s company at family gatherings throughout the years.
Margot is predeceased by her soulmate and husband Philip (1992), whom she has dearly missed. Margot co-owned and worked with her husband in their family bookstore in Baltimore during the 1970’s. She continued to help with the family business as it expanded into selling rare record albums under the name Record Collections with stores in Baltimore, Bethesda, MD, and Alexandria, Virginia.
Margot, born in 1929 in Berlin, is also predeceased by her two beloved sisters, Ursula Davidson (2021) and Helga Finks (2013) who grew up together in Germany during WWII.
Widowed at age 63, Margot started a new life for herself in the Golden Ponds community of Fort Pierce, Florida where she was known as a fashionista, dressed elegantly in flowing dresses, matching hats, and very high heels. She zipped around in her royal blue Volkswagen Beetle, a gift from her son Greg. In her early nineties, Margot switched to riding an electric scooter of the same color, zipping to the clubhouse pool for her nightly swim and jacuzzi.
Margot entertained her many friends and neighbors at community events with lively accordion-playing and spirited sing-alongs in English, German, and Italian. She participated in the Golden Ponds annual Christmas Lights parade, standing in her driveway, playing the accordion and singing carols. After rebounding from multiple hip fractures, Margot continued delighting passersbys with accordion tunes while seated in a comfortable chair.
A Type1diabetic since her early thirties, Margot’s longevity has not only astonished her doctors, but offers hope and inspiration to many young people living with juvenile diabetes. It is believed that Margot is one of only a handful of Type1 diabetics to survive well into their nineties.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to home health aide Florence Loisdort for the compassionate care and companionship she provided Margot over the last few years. Special thanks also to Trustbridge Hospice Foundation of West Palm Beach for providing exceptional home care to Margot in her final months. During his highly anticipated visits,Trustbridge music therapist Andrew Suchy found his biggest fan in Margot, while playing songs for her in both English and German.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margot Lazarony to the Florida Diabetes Camp (for children and teens): floridadiabetescamp.org
