

Blaine grew up in Georgetown, Idaho and graduated from Montpelier High School. When he was 20 years old Blaine went to work at Barrett Floral Shop in Montpelier where he learned floral design and arrangements. After four years he bought the business and it then became Solum Floral. When Blaine moved to West Valley City, Utah he became the senior lead designer for Supersilk where he did floral design for national trade shows and created arrangements for the home furnishing line of Supersilk. During his career as a floral designer Blaine won first place at the International Silk Floral Show seven different years. After moving to Henderson, Nevada Blaine worked for the Wynn casino creating floral arrangements and also worked in the horticulture department until his retirement.
Blaine was a kind and giving person who always tried to find ways to help friends, family, and strangers. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved and owned many animals throughout his life, including horses, many chickens and cats, and his beloved dog, Sheba. He was also an avid collector of antiques and many other treasures.
Blaine is survived by his brother, Brad (Janet) Solum; his life partner’s parents, Larry and Christa Barker; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Lorna Solum Fannin, Shelley Solum Purrington; and life partner, Michael Barker.
Funeral service for Blaine will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 West 4100 South, where friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
