Our sweet Angel, Bonnie Jean Middleton Newkirk, 86, returned to her heavenly home while surrounded by her family on April 18, 2017 in Sandy, Utah. The youngest of five children, Bonnie was born September 18, 1930 in Cedar City, Utah, to George Middleton and Ruby Stevens. She attended West High School before moving to California, where she graduated. She then moved back to Utah and attended BYU. Much of her professional career was spent at Mountain Bell where she later retired.
Bonnie married her sweet prince, Donald Alva Newkirk, on June 10, 1953. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple June 10, 1968, and celebrated 50 joyous years of marriage in 2003.
Bonnie was affectionately referred to as “Grammy” by her family and loved spending time with them. Grammy enjoyed traveling. She and Gramps enjoyed many vacations, road trips and cruises. Guided by her deep devotion to her heavenly father and the church, she was involved in relief society and held numerous church callings.
From an early age, Bonnie loved movies, especially musicals. She met many Hollywood stars and kept up with celebrity news. She loved her Saturday outings with her family. She also found joy in scrapbooking, sewing, playing canasta, and watching sports—especially BYU, and was an avid Utah Jazz fan.
Bonnie is survived by daughters, Karen Pryor, Donna (Scott) Sterzer, and Cindy (Lance) Kueffner; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Marian Love; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don; dear son, James; son-in-law, Bob Pryor; brother-in-law, Richard Love; and siblings Vyonne McClellan, Beth Johnson, Wanda Chaiko, and Keith Madsen.
Services will be held Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 21 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Bonnie Newkirk’s name to the charity of your choosing. The family would like to thank Bonnie’s friends at Liberty Dialysis and Cedarwood at Sandy for the loving care they provided.
