Darrell Kenneth Bonzo, a loving husband, devoted father, and man of quiet faith, was born on June 1, 1950, in Hemet, California, to Theron Reese Bonzo and Georgia Laymire Bybee. Darrell passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026.
Darrell served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973 during the Vietnam War, where he was a plane captain on the USS Constellation and the USS Enterprise. His dedication, courage, and sense of duty exemplified his lifelong commitment to service and integrity. He hoped that this country would always live up to the sacrifice and service that he and his fellow servicemen gave to protect it.
On December 11, 1976, he married the love of his life, Cheri Lynn Iversen. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, partnership, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, kindness, devotion and a whole lot of “Old People Love”!
Darrell loved being outdoors and could often be found camping, fishing, and boating. He especially enjoyed spending time with family, making memories filled with laughter and fun alongside his children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Those trips were full of adventure, stories around the campfire, and moments that everyone cherished. He later in life found a love of biking with the support of Wasatch Adaptive Sports.
He worked as a quality control engineer, a role that reflected his thoughtful nature, attention to detail, and strong work ethic. He took pride in his work and was a respected coworker and supervisor.
A longtime member of Sonrise Church where he served as a deacon, he was a man of deep yet quiet faith. He lived his beliefs through action rather than words—accepting all people, advocating for charity, and offering kindness without expectation.
He will be remembered as a gentle presence, a steady source of love, and a man who lived with purpose and grace. His legacy lives on through his family, his faith, and the many lives he touched through his compassion and generosity. He is celebrating with his parents Georgia and Vern Coggle, son Darrell Kenneth Jr. ,father and mother in-law Monroe and Flora Iversen along with many siblings, nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife Cheri Bonzo, children Candys Bonzo (Gustavo), Nathan Bonzo (Chante) and Jacob Bonzo (Tawny). And his six beloved grandchildren; Ethan, Layla, Sarah, Kat, Enzo and Twyla.
“He has shown you, O man, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
