Don was born on August 26, 1934, to Carl M. Croall and Mary Isabell Bagley Croall in Boring Oregon. Don’s parents separated when he was very young. His mother remarried and they moved to Provo, Utah where Don lived until his mother’s death when he was five years old. At five years old, Don rode the train by himself from Provo, Utah to Portland, Oregon to live with his grandma. Don was raised on a strawberry farm where he worked until he enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. During his 8 years of Navy service, Don was stationed aboard the USS Bunting and the USS Greer County. Don married Kristeen Jensen on June 30, 1967, in the Logan, Utah temple.
Don is survived and missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Kristeen; children: Randy (Amy), Jeff (Karen), and Shanna (Ed); 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Don was a very hard worker and led by example in all aspects of his life. He was employed by UTA for 23 years where a highlight of his career was achieving one million accident-free miles. Don also drove for LeBus & Lewis Brothers in Salt Lake City and LTR in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before switching careers to drive buses, Don opened the Blimpies in downtown Salt Lake City and the Weinerschnitzel in West Valley City. He also spent several years as a Salt Lake City police officer.
Don enjoyed watching sports and rooting for the Utah Jazz, BYU, Utah Utes, and the Dallas Cowboys. Don’s hobby was his yard, where he spent countless hours. His hard work and beautiful yard were recognized by West Valley City 3 separate years when they presented him with the Yard Beautification Award. Don will always be remembered for sweeping the street and gutter in front of their home.
Don was a very humble, quiet man that was proud of his family and all that they achieved. He taught with love and patience, he was always smiling, and had a favored wink. Don had many callings in the church, with his favorite being the Executive Secretary for 5 different bishops. He loved serving and going to the temple until his Parkinson’s Disease made it too difficult.
Some highlights in Don’s life include being happily married for 58 years, spending time with his family, and serving in the Navy during the Korean War. In 2018, he participated in the Utah Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with his son, Jeff.
The family wishes to acknowledge the love, friendship, and special care he received from the VA, Atlas Home Health, hospice, and all the medical care he received while suffering with Parkinson’s Disease the past 15 years.
