Dorothy Nixon Free, our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday evening with her family at her side. Dorothy was born April 15, 1929, in Price, Utah. She married her beloved husband Sam on August 27, 1947. They were married for 65 years. She enjoyed a career as an accountant for Sentinel Life Insurance for 30 years. Dorothy’s most cherished joy in life was her family. She was also a devoted member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions, including R.S. and Y.W. President and as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple.
Dorothy waged a valiant battle against Alzheimer’s, while she retained her gentle nature and lively sense of humor. She will be remembered for her endearing smile and infectious laugh. Life was an adventure, which she lived with enthusiasm and vigor, running races, skiing, hiking, and camping well into her 70’s.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Lora and Clarence; brother, Floyd; sister, Rhea; daughter, Linda Paskett; and granddaughters, Lindsay and Emily Free. She is survived by her husband, Sam; son, Gary (Kathy); daughter, Carolyn Foresta; son-in-law, Darrell Paskett; siblings, Clyde (Diane), Bert (Shirley), Evelyn (Fred), Tom (Marilyn), Neil (Theresa); twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care offered by nurses and staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice and Legacy Memory Care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heritage Ward 4586 W. Woodbury Cir.
