Edna Mae (Cordova) Medina, 92, of Trinidad, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025, with her beloved granddaughters, Rebecca and Katilyn. Born the only daughter to the late Carlos & Martha Cordova, Edna was spoiled by her father. “If mom told me no, I’d go and ask Daddy. He’d say yes, every time”. Edna devoted her life to caring for others—first as a young woman discerning a religious vocation in the Catholic Church and for 40 years thereafter as a dedicated nurse at the VA ICU in Palo Alto, California and Children’s Hospital Colorado NICU in Denver. Her compassion, wit and skill touched countless lives.
Edna’s family was her greatest joy. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Manuel Joseph Medina, and her son, David Gerard Medina. Countless friends and family members await her return home. Edna delighted in welcoming extended family and lifelong friends into her home— even as she playfully called her children “a bunch of shits” for keeping her on her toes. In quieter moments, she lost herself in crochet and word-search puzzles, crafting blankets and memories with equal care and precision. She was full of fire, stubborn and as sassy as they come. To know her was to love her.
Edna’s fierce love, generous spirit, and quick-witted humor remain with all who knew her. Edna taught us that God is sacred, family is forever (even when they drive you crazy), and every new dawn holds promise. At 92, Edna was ready for home, even telling her family the day before her passing that “If God calls, I’m answering”. Whatever Edna did, it was with her whole heart, stubbornness and fire, including deciding when she picked up the call for home.
A lifelong Catholic, Edna’s faith was steadfast. A viewing and rosary service will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Valley View Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 W 5215 S, Kearns, UT 84118.
Edna will be laid to rest in Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120-5102.
In lieu of flowers, Edna requests donations to the St. Francis Xavier Church and School in Kearns, Utah, which she supported with glory and praise.
