Our Beloved Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edna Elnora Greenhagen, drew her last breath Sunday the 11th of December. Ellie, as she liked to be known as, was born to Lou Nestman and Elizabeth Kathryn Miller on March 24th, 1933 in Los Angeles, California. She and her sister, Marie, brothers Vernon and Robert, were raised by loving parents. Ellie married Johnny Cacia in 1948, and they were blessed with three children, David, Kathy and Danny. They later divorced and Ellie moved to Salt Lake where she met Charles Ray Greenhagen. They were married in 1956, having one son Steven. They divorced and Ellie moved her family to Westminster, California.
Ellie worked at the Safeway Bakery as a line superintendent along with various other part time jobs so her kids could have a normal childhood. She would often forgo things for herself so she could send the kids to the movies once a month. Ellie moved back to Salt Lake City in the early 80’s to be close to her children, Steven, Kathy and David. She worked as a supervisor at MTI. She left this position to help Charlie when his health started to get worse. She nursed him in home for the next 7 years, up to his passing on January 11, 2008. Ellie's son David cared for her up to the point that she needed professional care and she was moved into the Saint Joseph’s Villa for a year and a half. She has spent the last seven months at the Lodges at Riverton. She was visited regularly by Danny, David, Steven, and her granddaughter Cheryse. Cheryse would often bring Miley, her golden retriever. Mom loved animals and especially loved getting kisses from Miley.
Ellie was preceded in death by both her parents and her step-dad Raymond Miller, all her siblings, both spouses and one grandson, John William Nicholson. She is survived by her children, David John Cacia [Linda], Kathy Nicholson, Danny Leland Cacia, and Steven Dale Greenhagen. Her granddaughters Cheryse Cacia-Naso [Joe], Kathy Jo Nicholson, Rachel Nicholson, and grandson, Rulon Nicholson. Her great-granddaughters McKayla Cacia-Naso, Martha, and Hannah Nicholson, great-grandsons Dayton and Jacob Schmidt, William, Leroy, and Nephi Nicholson. She will be celebrated on Monday the 19th 2:00 pm at the Valley View Funeral Home Chapel. The graveside service will be at 3:00. As per Ellie’s request there will be no prior viewing services.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lodges of Riverton for their kind and passionate care they gave to our mom. May God’s Loving touch and healing embrace touch all that are saddened by her passing. Mom, you are unleashed of your Earthly bonds and we’re sure you are rejoicing with family that moved on before you, in a better place.
