Idella Warren, a beacon of love and faith, was born on September 6, 1936, in Jackson, Mississippi, and departed this earthly life on February 2, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of her family in Salt Lake City, Utah. Idella's passing leaves an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Leroy Grant, and mother, Curticean Grant, her sons Anthony Grant and Eric Warren, and her husband’s Wardell Warren (1961) and Jesse Luckett (2006). Idella is survived by her loving children, Marcus Warren, and Felecia (Raymond) Davis, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Anthony Warren, Candace (Harley) Whitaker, and Tony Warren. Her legacy extends to her great-grandchildren: Aj Roylance, Sean Warren, Jonathon Westbrook, Anthony Warren Jr, Ty Fuller, Jayda Warren, Maya Warren, Siera Warren, TJ “Rico” Butler, Quinn Warren, Mason Whitaker, Jackson Whitaker, Tyler, Aaliyah, Alexandria, and Tacoma. Additionally, Idella is survived by her triple G’s: Harmony and Oaklynn Warren, and Sisters- in-Love Rozena Harris and Maryann (Donre) Sampson, her bonus child Cassandra (Robert) Smith along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Idella's life was a testament to her deep faith, as she accepted Christ at an early age at the New Hope Baptist Church and continued through New Pilgrim Baptist Church now known as The Point. Her love for Christ served as the cornerstone of her life, and she shared that love with everyone she encountered, teaching them about the boundless love of Jesus. Idella's warmth extended through her words, writing, and food; no one ever left her home hungry or without advice, whether solicited or not. Her love was fierce, and she fought passionately for her beliefs. If you spent more than fifteen minutes in conversation with her, you became family.
Professionally accomplished, Idella was a member of Timpanogos Temple #483 Elks and a certified member of the International Executives Housekeeping Association. She served as the Director of Housekeeping at Cottonwood and Alta View Hospitals, and she was a past president and member of Women on the Mark of Salt Lake City, Utah. Idella also held a certification as a nursing assistant.
Throughout the years, Idella imparted numerous life lessons, teaching her loved ones how to navigate grief. Her strength and love became evident when the family faced devastating losses, particularly the passing of her sons Anthony and Eric. Through love and faith, Idella showed that, though grief is an inevitable part of life, it is possible to find comfort.
In the words of Colin Murray Parkes, "The pain of grief is just as much a part of life as the joy of love; it is, perhaps, the price we pay for love."
Idella Warren, known affectionately as Mommie, Grandma, GG, T, Ms. Idella, Mother Idella, and Auntie Idella, will be dearly missed, but her spirit and teachings will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones who preceded her in death.
