On June 22nd, 2023, after a long journey of love and humility, surrounded by his family, our beloved Husband, Father, Papa and friend returned to his Heavenly home and was reunited with his eldest twins, Miriam and Akanesi.
Gary Kaleinani-O-Laie Haiola was born on June 19th, 1955, to Kaniu Ha’aha’a and Gladys Lua Haiola in Laie Oahu, Hawaii.
Gary attended Laie Elementary and graduated from Kahuku High School in 1973. In 1975, he served a 2-year LDS mission in Winnipeg, Canada. On October 2nd, 1980, he married the love of his life, Kavamahea Tukuafu. In 1982 he graduated with an associate's degree from the Hawai’i School of Business, earning a certificate in Computer programming.
Gary and Kava had 7 kids and in 1989 the pair moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dad’s professional career included owning a papaya farm in Laie, groundskeeper for BYU Hawaii, and over 20 years as a Truck Driver in Salt Lake. He was an avid gardener who took pride in his green lawn, beautiful flowers and selection of trees. He was a great artist with drawings and words who loved fishing, watching sports (especially the Steeler’s), a hearty serving of poi and trips back to Laie.
Gary is survived by his brother Charles Haiola (Auntie Helen), his sisters Mary Fontes, Pinky Farley, Geraldine Clark, and Eloise Mudaliar (Uncle Siva), his 5 children Gary Lucas (Stacy), Joshua Heamasa (Nicole), Kersey Kaleinani-O Laie (Lani), Ma'ata Kaleinani-O-Laie (Michael), Rachael Kaleinani-O-Laie (Kalolo), 15 grandchildren, and eternal companion Kavamahea Haiola.
Dad was a devoted husband and loving and engaged Father and Papa. He was a great source of wisdom, guidance and leaves a strong legacy of unconditional love.
We miss and love you, Dad.
