Harold “Bruce” Harvey, age 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home on May 26, 2025. Bruce was born on August 6, 1934, to Claire L. and Edna Fern W. Harvey in the small town of Mountain View, Wyoming, where he developed a love for ranch life. To access education, he divided his time between home and the residential Utah School for the Deaf in Ogden, from which he later graduated. Bruce had a deep gratitude for how this experience opened doors to the rich world of the Deaf community and American Sign Language.
On July 1, 1962, Bruce married his sweetheart, Dian Harvey, in the Salt Lake City Temple, sealing their union for time and all eternity. They built a beautiful life together, raising a lively family of five children, who were always his first priority. He dedicated 49 years to supporting his family as an offset pressman, running various printing presses. Bruce was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions, including Bishop of the Salt Lake City 1st Deaf Ward and High Priest Group Leader. He enjoyed movies, classic cars, and anything outdoors.
Bruce leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: his children, Todd Harvey, Paul (Rachel) Harvey, Suzette Harvey, Jennifer Harvey, and Harold (Daniel’el) Harvey. He is also survived by his brother, Lamond (Nancy); ten grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was reunited in death with his beloved wife, Dian Todd Harvey, and his parents, Claire L. Harvey and Edna Fern W. Harvey.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the loving care provided by the nurses and aides of IHC Hospice, and to all the wonderful ASL interpreters who ensured communication access.
