Mrs. Harumi Takashima Marsh, age 95, passed away Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, at her Seattle WA residence. She was born March 13, 1930, in Kiryu, Gunma, Japan, a daughter of the late Yaichi and Fumi (Nakamura) Takashima.
After living in Okinawa, Japan, Harumi moved to Magna, Utah, in 1967, with her husband Keith, and their 3 daughters, Ruth, Carol, and Rumi. Tragically, Keith passed away suddenly in 1969, leaving Harumi to care for her 3 daughters on her own. With English being her second language, finding employment to help raise her children was difficult but she was able to find employment at the Hotel Utah, where she worked until it closed in August of 1987. She wasn’t one to “sit idly by” and quickly found employment with Intermountain Healthcare (formerly known as LDS Hospital) where she worked through her mid/late 70’s.
Harumi travelled back to her homeland for her 88th birthday (8 is a lucky Japanese symbol) where she got to spend time with her younger brother, Kazumi.
Extremely independent (stubborn) and highly motivated, Harumi let nothing deter her from finding happiness in life. Always eager to try new experiences, she never hesitated to go on road trips with her family and friends. She was a selfless, generous soul, who was willing to help anyone.
Harumi was a wonderful loving, supportive mother (okaason), grandmother (obaachan), and great-grandmother (sofu). She will be greatly missed.
Harumi is preceded in death by her husband, Keith Owen Marsh; brothers, Tamotsu and Noboru (Takashima); sister, Yoshiko Nakamura. She is survived by a brother (otouto), Kazumi; daughters (musume), Ruth, Carol (Craig), Rumi (Doug); grandchildren (mago), Brianne (Vicki), Marcie (Scott), Cortney, Megan (Adam), Chelsea, Kate, William; great-grandchildren (himago), Safiya, Elijah, Kennedee, Benjamin, Joseph, Ruby, Isaac, and Charlotte.
We would like to thank Evergreen Health Hospice Care (Seattle, WA) for their thoughtful, loving support and care for Harumi for the past few months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, where friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to noon, and a service will be held from noon to 1 p.m.
Per Harumi’s request, in lieu of flowers, please kindly donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
