James "Scotty" Goodwin

James “Scotty” Goodwin, beloved husband, father, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at his home in West Valley City, Utah on July 8, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.

Born on June 2, 1935, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Agnes and James Goodwin, Scotty brought with him a thick Scottish accent and a heart twice as big when he crossed the pond. He married his sweetheart, Jane Muirhead, on October 5, 1956, and together they bravely embarked on a new life in Salt Lake City, Utah with their two young children, James and Linda—and one more, David, soon to arrive. Scotty and Jane shared 64 years of love and laughter.

Scotty had a gift for lighting up any room—always quick with a smile or a joke (some better than others). He was fearless when it came to building, fixing, or trying something new. He built both the family home and a cherished cabin in Fruitland, Utah, piecing them together with leftover materials from his job sites—a true craftsman with a thrifty streak. The cabin was one of his proudest accomplishments, second only to his family.

He was a man who gave everything and asked for nothing. His love for his family was matched only by his love for his wee Scottie dogs, Robbie and Baxter, who were always close by. Scotty leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Scotty is survived by his loving children: James (Karen), Linda (Scott), and David; as well as his dear cousin, Jeanie Clark and family, and his cousin, Tom Park and family.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Malia Fau (and her team) for being Scotty’s loyal and compassionate companion who provided round-the-clock care and Eric Sorensen and the hospice team for their support and comfort in his final days.

A viewing will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
