Avis de décès de Jane Vega

Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home

LIFE STORY

Jane Vega was born Friday, November 13, 1931 in Longmont, Colorado, to Pablo Vega and Anastacia Mendoza. She was born into a large family but mainly raised with her brother Frank and sisters Rae, Cora, Josie and Maria. Growing up she was in a musical trio, singing with her sisters on the radio. She was a social butterfly and we believe she never met a stranger. Mom was one of the first women of color to graduate from nursing school in Denver, Colorado, working in that field until retirement. She was a Vista volunteer at Utah State University in Blanding, Utah, where she taught nursing. She also served for a time as a Peace Corp volunteer. Later in life she was an ESL teacher to grade school children, and her love of adventure allowed her to travel all over the United States and Panama. Mom gave birth to six children: Laura (John), Leslie, Lois, Erwin Lamont, Lorna, and Cori (Randy). Our home was always filled with music. She exposed her children and grandchildren to music such as classical, musicals, jazz, and contemporary. Our record player could be heard playing the Platters, Barbara Streisand, Louis Armstrong, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Flamenco and Bosa Nova. Mom loved to sing and dance so much that she actually composed musical lyrics. Her thirst for knowledge inspired all of her children to read and get an

education. Mom’s posterity is filled with voracious readers where an adventure is just a book away. She was a writer of short stories and poems, which we are still fortunate enough to have. In later years Mom taught herself short phrases in a variety of languages making her a perfect candidate for the ESL program. The children loved Mom so much they didn’t want her to leave. As a going away gift they gave her a giant candy bar poster that she kept until moving out of her last apartment, minus the candy! Mom loved sweets! If she had a choice between food or something sweet like cookies, candy bars, donuts, or literally any other kind of dessert, food usually lost out. We jokingly told her that when she passed we would be sure to put a cherry coke in her casket so she’d have one for the road!

Mom’s legacy includes 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Erwin Lamont, grandson Paul Lyle, great-granddaughter Nina Marie, and great granddaughter Hadley Paige. Mom was a daughter, sister, mother, and so much more. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a full tithe payer and held a Temple recommend as an example to her family. Mom has a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it is through the Plan of Salvation that we will meet again.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11am, Valley View Mortuary, West Valley City, Utah.
