Johnathan McKay Madsen

Johnathan McKay Madsen passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021, in Murray, Utah, due to complications from a stroke. John was born October 21, 1976, in San Diego, California to David B and Kenna Caplinger Madsen. He is the fourth child and first son.

John presented a gruff exterior — but had a kind and tender heart. He was a fiercely loyal friend, an amazing “Nuncle,” and a precious son. John is funny and a quick wit. He has a memorable laugh and a startling sneeze. John has a wonderful crooked smile and the amazing ability to memorize movie quotes. John loved to collect skulls, Pez dispensers, and anything black. He was a great fan of video games; he and his brother Mark spent a lot of time together playing.

John spent lots of time with his nieces and nephews. Each of them has tender memories of their time with him. John loved to share stories about them and they became more embellished with each telling. John attended school in Kearns, Utah, graduating from Kearns High School. He worked for a Reams grocery store for many years. They were so patient and kind to him these past few years as he was very sick.

Surviving relatives include his parents, siblings: Cindy Madsen, Wendy Madsen, Kari Fellows (Joseph), nieces and nephews Eddie Williams, Mishea Susanne (Sweet Pea), Jade Fellows (Jade-o-Potato) and Noah Fellows (Turd Whomper) and his grandmother Mildred Madsen. Proceeded in death by his beloved baby brother, Mark Madsen, his grandparents, Warren and Dorothy Caplinger, and Boyd Madsen.

Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, love, generosity, and prayers at this time. We love you all!

Services will be held Monday, March 15, 2021 at 12 Noon at Kearns 21st Ward at 5720 S. 4270 W. Kearns, Utah 84118 with the visitation from 11 to 11:45 AM the same day. The family will receive family and friends the evening prior on Sunday, March 14th from 6 to 7:30 PM at the same location.
