With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kevin Dale Jenkins, age 69, who returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Kevin was born on December 5, 1954, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Huston and Jacqueline (Henning) Jenkins. He was the third of their children and has always been known for his adventurous spirit and love for life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
One of the most impactful experiences of Kevin’s life was serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the England Birmingham Mission. His time in England helped shape his deep commitment to his faith. Kevin loved sharing the gospel throughout his life and was always eager to remind others of the Savior’s love for them.
On June 3, 1977, Kevin married Beverly Bush, and together they raised three wonderful children: Kevin Ryan, Caddie Janeen, and Kaylee Marie. His children will always remember him for his wisdom, humor, and love.
Kevin also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the 1980s. He served as an Artillery Scout, earning the rank of Sergeant. His time in the military only strengthened his sense of duty, and he enjoyed the friendships and challenges that came with the job.
In 2003, Kevin found love again and married Carolyn (Young) Smith on April 11. Two years later, on April 16, 2005, they were sealed in the Jordan River Temple. Carolyn had two children, Todd Michael and Tracee (whom Kevin nicknamed “Charli”). Kevin took on the role of father figure with open arms. He loved them like his own, always there with a kind word, helping hand, or a joke to lift their spirits. Kevin was also the proud grandpa to 15 grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them and was happiest when surrounded by his family.
Kevin’s faith was at the center of everything he did. He had a deep love for the gospel, the scriptures, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and especially conference talks. He was known for his ability to memorize scripture and share it at just the right moment. His enthusiasm for spreading the gospel was contagious, and his strong faith inspired everyone around him.
Kevin also had a significant impact on the lives of others. He was an advocate for education and missions, always encouraging his children, nieces, nephews, and other family members to attend school and serve a mission. Kevin’s influence ran deep, and many people have been directly impacted by his heartfelt discussions about faith, education, and the importance of reaching one's potential.
Kevin also found joy as a truck driver, where he got to explore the open road and meet people from all walks of life. He thrived on new experiences and never missed a chance to strike up a conversation. His sense of humor was legendary—whether he was telling a joke or pulling a prank, he always knew how to make people laugh and feel at ease. His laughter and warmth will be missed by all who knew him.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents Huston and Jacqueline Jenkins; his sister, Elaine; and his cousin, Philip. His family takes comfort in knowing that he has reunited with them on the other side.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Carolyn, his five children: Kevin Ryan (Jaeyoung) Jenkins, Caddie Janeen (Paul) Welling, Kaylee Marie Jenkins, Todd Michael (Stefanie) Smith, and Tracee (Jordan) Bracken and his 15 grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life. Kevin is also survived by his siblings: Kjell (Gail) Jenkins, Neil (Kay Dawn) Jenkins, Anita (Don) Davis, Gina (Roger) Tims, Tamara Stauffer, Judilyn Gonzales, and Huston Jenkins, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Kevin’s life at two viewings to be held at the Woodgrove Ward, 4322 South 5400 West, West Valley City, Utah. The first viewing will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., and the second on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Following the services, interment will take place at the Valley View Memorial Park.
We’ll always remember Kevin for his humor, boundless energy, and the deep love he had for his family and faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Until we meet again, Kevin, your spirit will continue to light up our lives. We love you always.
