On April 28, 2017, Lawrence Conti peacefully passed away. He was born June 12, 1929, to Tony and Helen Conti as the fifth of six kids. Throughout his life, Lawrence was proud of his Italian heritage.
He graduated from Cyprus High where he met the love of his life, Geraldine (Jerrie) Rolfe. They were married on March 21, 1951. Soon after graduating from the University of Utah and securing a teaching job, Lawrence was drafted to serve in the Korean War. After finishing his service, he changed career paths and graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the U. As he was the first in his family to graduate from college, he encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue their education. After working several years for Sperry, he capped his career by retiring from Hill Air Force Base in 1990.
Lawrence is a man of many talents. Skillful with both his mind and hands; no problem was too difficult to solve. He is an artist, mechanic, carpenter, and engineer. In his 20s, he painted a canvas mural for Our Lady of Lourdes in Magna that is still on display. As his wife and children can attest, home remodeling was never ending. A basement was hand dug under their five room home, then a family room addition, and a garage and second garage. Lawrence believed if one nail was good, four nails with glue even better until he discovered 3” screws. He loved to go fishing with family and friends, especially at Potters Pond. After Jerrie passed away in 2002, Lawrence continued piddling on home improvements and focusing on his grandchildren’s endeavors. He left a lasting impact on his children and grandchildren that we will never forget.
Lawrence is survived by his four children, Larry (Marlyn), Tracy (Erin), Holly Morford (Kevin) and Mark; seven grandchildren, Robert, Tony, Jennifer, Vincent, Dominic, Harrison, and Samantha; four great grandchildren, Jackson, Parker, Eva, and Braydon; and one brother Ernie. Preceded in death by Jerrie; his parents; and siblings, Dan, Lydia, Jean, and James.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Geraldine Conti Scholarship Fund, C/O St Francis Xavier School, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns, Utah 84118.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
