Lila Vernae Higley

1938-2013

Lila Vernae Davis Higley, 74, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on June 17, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Laverl Deward and Lila Madge Beer Davis. She attended Garfield Elementary, Brockbank Junior High and Cyprus High School. She married Larry Dee Higley on December 3, 1954 in Garfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in June of 1973.

Vernae was an avid flower arranger and enjoyed making wedding cakes. She wrote at least 26 poems and stories about all of her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was in the PTA for several years. Vernae was a member of the LDS church and served for 20 years in the Primary. Eight of those years were served as the Primary President.

Vernae is survived by her husband, Larry Dee Higley; children, Sharma Kaye Bender, Lila Christine Benson, LorieLynn Hamelman, Jaran Kurt Higley; siblings, Myrle Bowen, Boyd Davis, Dennis Jensen; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Alta Jensen Davis; step-brothers, Ira Jensen and Milton Jensen

Funeral services for Vernae will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Hunter 12th Ward, 7035 W. Loch Ness Ave. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday evening from 6-8pm at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S. and again on Monday morning from 11:00 to 11:45 prior to the service. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park
