“Cookie”
Marilyn Silva Okumura passed away peacefully on February 11, 2015 in the loving presence of her family. Marilyn was born May 15, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Julia Sanborn and George Silva. She married Saburo (Sub) Okumura on July 23, 1960 in Las Vegas, NV.
Marilyn loved animals and crafts, and was most known for her beautiful plastic canvas work. She also enjoyed and looked forward to hanging out at the bowling alley cheering for her husband, son, many family members, and friends. She loved spending time at Bonwood Bowl and Competitive Edge Pro Shop where the Pro Shop owner fondly referred to her as “The Boss”. Marilyn worked as a secretary at Western Hills Elementary School while raising her two sons.
Cookie, to say you will be missed is an understatement. You magically touched so many hearts which are now empty in your absence. Your genuine, unconditional love for life, family, and friends will greatly be missed.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Saburo (Sub) Okumura; son Gary Okumura (wife Tonja); granddaughter Carol Okumura; grandson Jaaycob Okumura; sisters Betta Cehovec and Norma Berger, many nieces and nephews along with a large extended family, and her dog Makita. She was preceded in death by her son William T. Okumura; mother Julia Sanborn; and father George Silva.
Marilyn’s family wishes to thank the staff at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah for their exceptional care and compassion during Marilyn’s stay, and a heart-felt thanks to all who provided meals for the family, prayers, and support.
