1939 ~ 2014
Mildred June Bakke Daniels, 74, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center of multiple causes due to age.
Milly was born March 1, 1939 to Arnvald V. and Grace Lingle Bakke at a farm in Birch Creek Township, Minnesota, the third of five girls. She attended schools in Denham, Sturgeon Lake, and Willow River, MN, graduating from Willow River High School in 1957.
On October 10, 1959 at Sturgeon Lake, this beautiful Nordic farm girl married her “USAF Flyboy”, Dennis Daniels from Utah, and upon relocating to Salt Lake City, quickly conquered the hearts of her new family and friends. Although she came to truly love her Great Western Experience, she kept her Northern traditions intact. She was Utah’s greatest Minnesota Vikings fan. She could still speak fluent “Minnesotan”, “da wey dey do it up nort”. And she would never let a Christmas go by without her Lutefisk. Her Thanksgiving dinners were the stuff from which legends are created. Her realm was the soil but no weed dared sully her field. Her father-in-law once commented: “that girl can get more out of a little piece of ground than anyone I ever saw”.
Milly is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Dennis Daniels; daughter, Kathryn Zeigler and son, Robert (Gigi) Daniels; two grandchildren, Tristan Daniels and Denise Zeigler; sisters, Carol Danelski, St. Paul, MN and Kathleen Bakke, Central, AK.; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
Funeral Services for Milly will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 2700 West 5200 South, in Taylorsville. The family will receive friends at a visitation Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South. Condolences may be sent to the family @valleyviewfuneral.com.
