Pat, no matter how much I try, I cannot find the words that truly express how much I am going to miss you and the light of life you brought to our family.  In all the years I have known you, I always loved and admired you for the way you kept your family together. I love you, if for nothing else, for the beautiful way you raised your daughter so she could become the incredible mom and wife she is today.  She's like you in so many ways in that she has taken what values you instilled in her, and passed that on to our children to make them the loving, caring kids they are today. The bond you shared with Bernedette was truly one of the most beautiful and wonderful relationships I may ever see between a mother and a daughter and one I hope our girls will duplicate with her as they grow. The same can be said for your relationship with my "brother" John. In short, without any want or fanfare you showed, and more importantly, shared the unconditional devoted love you have for your children so all could see what it takes to be a great parent. You also did this when it came time for your grandchildren to become part of your life and family and needed that special unconditional love and support only you, now a grandma, could give. I will always be grateful for everything you did for Sophie, Toby, and Katie. You were there when each one came into the world and, from that moment on, had your special place in their hearts secured forever. Thanks for always being there to share in their joy and happiness, and for all the times in between.  Again, you set an example of what a grandparent should be with seemingly little effort. One should be proud if they can only equal what and how you did what you did when it came to family. 
I thank you for letting me become a part of that special family of yours. Thanks for being there for us, in good times and bad, and for all you did over the years to bring so much happiness into our lives. I'll miss our little chats, the trips you took with us, and the times you would go out with us just to spend a few more minutes visiting with everyone. I'll miss your laugh and  sense of humor that was as unique and special as you.  Though my time with you wasn't as long as others, or as I had hoped, I thankfully have a million reasons to smile whenever I think of you. You are, and always will be, a second mom to me and I will miss you as such. Knowing you the way I did, I know you're always going to be near and will be there as we go through life and, like you always did at your house, be waiting with that cheerful smile and "hello" that only you had when it's time to meet again.
