He graduated from Granger High School in 1969 then joined the US Navy where he served from 1969-1973. He married Lynne Bowden in 1970, and they raised 3 children: Keri, Paul & Matt. Richard worked at Rick Warner/Freightliner for over 35 years until he retired.
In his younger years, he loved being outdoors. He taught his kids to ski at Brighton Resort and they grew up with most winter weekends spent on the hill! He loved camping, and the family visited many of Utah’s National Parks. He enjoyed fishing & hunting with his boys. He became an avid scuba diver and had many trips with great friends. The thing he loved most was spending time at the family cabin at Rockport Estates. The deer would come right up to the deck where they were fed on a regular basis.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne, and children, Keri (Lauren) & Matt. Grandchildren Broc (Jacquline), Montana (Bryce), Salomon & Glory. And just recently, a great-granddaughter, Philomena. He is also survived by two sisters, Annette (Del) Viall and Karen (Gene) Phillips. And lastly, his beloved dog, Billy Duke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex, Lelia (Elmer), sister Patti and son Paul.
We especially want to thank our sweet Broc for all the love and care he gave his grandpa in the last years.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2-4 PM with a short program beginning at 2:30 at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT.
