Richard Lon Turner, proud father, grandfather, veteran, and beloved friend, passed away on April 1st, 2025, at the age of 64. He was surrounded by the love of his family, whose lives he shaped with quiet strength, enduring love, and a sense of humor that could be hit or miss.
Born in Hermosa Beach, California on October 22nd, 1960, Richard served honorably in the military for four years, a time he looked back on with pride. He went on to dedicate over 25 years to the food service industry and later became a business owner, bringing his work ethic and character into everything he did.
He was preceded in death by his Mother Diane, Father Lon, and his Beloved Aunt Bobby.
He is survived by his children David, Sheamarie, and Dakota, and his grandchildren LilithAnn and James—each of whom he loved deeply and unconditionally.
A man of many interests, Richard was a golf lover, excellent skier, electronics enthusiast, passionate cook, car aficionado, movie buff, and a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan. He took special pride in his Mustang and always had a “bad dad joke” ready to go. His joy in life’s little things—like singing terribly on purpose—brought endless smiles to those around him.
Described by many as a gentle giant, Richard was the kind of man who kept his promises, persevered through every hardship, and made lasting impressions on everyone he met. He was known for being both incredibly hard-working and wildly humorous—a Jackal and Hyde when it came to life, blending dedication with playful spirit.
He was a man of deep faith, a loyal friend, and a loving father who “cursed himself as too tough to die”—and proved it time and again. We as his kids joke that our father was “just a little bit proud” of his kids, in truth, he loved us with everything he had.
A memorial service will be held on April 24th, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., at LDS Church (8739 W 3000 S Magna, UT 84044) and the Graveside Service will be held at 2 P.M. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park (17111 1700 W Bluffdale, UT 84065) where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Affairs (VA) in his memory.
He will be deeply missed and never forgotten
