Our beautiful Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully, Dec. 21, 2020. She was a pillar of strength until her body gave way to heart failure. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Wesley Earl Tingey and Ivy Gladys Parson. Shirleen was born into a large family of 9 brothers and 4 sisters. The antics in that household were on going. She was raised on a large crop farm in Centerville, Utah and loved living the life. Being one of the youngest of 14 she was teased, spoiled and pampered.
Shirleen married William “Bill” Edward Kasenberg and had 3 children, Susan, John and Jill. As parents, they provided the best life a child could ask for. The holidays were a blast, especially Christmas. Bill and Shirleen loved boating and created many fond memories at Bear Lake and Echo Reservoir. They loved the “Lake.” Dad taught each child how to waterski and Mom always had yummy treats and delicious eats for the family when they came off the lake. She loved her grandchildren and would laugh and play with them. They loved teasing her and playing tricks on her. She could get in just as much trouble as the grandchildren.
She loved taking rides in the car to nowhere in particular. On weekends, it was fun to see where the old Chevy would land us.
She would take the children to Centerville to see her family on the farm. It was a “child’s” biggest dream to be there with their cousins, playing in the barns, riding the farm equipment and fields to roam around. Mom would always bring home bushels of produce after a visit.
Shirleen attended Westminster College for nursing and worked the majority of her nursing career in a private doctor’s office. She was kind to everyone and always had a big smile and something kind to say.
After Bill died, Shirleen met a wonderful man by the name of “Joe.” He was a blessing to her and our family and took wonderful care of her until his death.
The family wishes to extend a special heartfelt thanks to Summit Senior Living for their tender loving care they provided mom. She made many friends and was loved by them all. We are grateful for Harmony Home Health & Hospice for stepping in to render love and assistance in the final week of life.
We love you very much and will always remember what you taught us. You were there when we needed you and were a loving and wonderful Mom! We’ll miss you and you’ll be in our hearts daily! Give big hugs and kisses to Dad, Jill, Brad and Joe. Sweet memories for life!
She is survived by her loving children: Susan (Dan) Kubinski and John Kasenberg; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Dale Tingey and Calvin (Sherry) Tingey. Shirleen was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Edward Kasenberg, Jan. 1991, and second husband, William “Joe” Ernest Nelson, Dec. 2012; daughter, Jill (Kerry) Kreis, Apr. 2013 and grandson, Brad Kasenberg, Dec. 2014.
In Shirleen’s honor a viewing will be Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 from 9:45 to 10:45 am at Valley View Funeral Home, 4100 South 4335 West, West Valley City, with a Graveside Service to follow at 11:00 am at Valley View Memorial Park.
