Euology for My Aunt Sue (Part Five)

There's an old Inuit proverb that goes, “Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.”

We are literally made of stardust.  Nearly all the elements that compose our bodies are star forged, dispersed throughout the universe by supernova.

Now that my aunt has returned to the heavenly realm, I will look for her among the shining stars, illuminating us with love.



Euology for My Aunt Sue (Part Four)

•  Aunt Sue braved busy airports to visit us in Florida.  Her first trip, I believe, was in 1999.  She brought the entire Davies family with her and they rented a massive white van.  It was big.  It was really big.  It was the biggest van I've ever seen in my entire life. We promptly dubbed this epic vehicle the Mystery Machine, and spent three days driving around Orlando blasting the song “Welcome to Miami." A few years later, my Aunt Sue returned to Florida with my Aunt Vickie.  We explored the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, the Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs, and Clearwater Beach.  We went to a fancy fondue restaurant and watched movies.  And out of everything we did, I think my aunts, favorite part of the vacation was the three hundred year old oak tree in the park near our home.  I always cherish the memories of these visits. 

•  After my then-fiancee Jordan proposed to me, he accompanied me to Utah to meet my family and check out potential wedding venues.  Aunt Sue hosted us in her luxury camper and accompanied us on part of our Wedding Planning Adventure.  We dined at Gardener Village (a historic polygamous compound converted into a shopping center) in an old flour mill.  The day after our wedding reception, my aunt hosted an afterparty at her home, with a BBQ and swimming, which was so kind and generous of her. 

•  Last April, my aunt made her last trip to Florida.  She brought my little boy Brendan a shark tee-shirt and showered him with affection.  We visited Boca Raton, Gasparilla Island Lighthouse, and Weeki Wachee State Park.  At Weeki Wachee, we viewed alligators and manatees on a river boat tour and watched mermaids perform underwater acrobatics.  We also visited the Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center, where my aunt cuddled and kissed a baby alligator.  My son completely fell in love with her.  I will be grateful, forever, that my husband and son got to know what an amazing, loving person she was. 


Eulogy for My Aunt Sue (Part Three)

•  My aunt took us to Raging Waters and Lagoon for Harmons Day.  We'd go to Peter Piper Pizza for pepperoni pizza and pitchers of root beer.

•  I remember road trips to Remond, Utah to visit my great-grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Christensen.  I dearly loved these visits, sitting at a kitchen table eating warm bread with homemade jam, and walking in a sunny garden amidst buzzing bumblebees and fluttering butterflies.  On one visit, I vividly remember looking at flowers with my great-grandmother Irene, my grandmother LaPreel, my Aunt Sue, my mother Pamela, and my cousin Angie.  Years later, my Aunt Sue became a grandmother, and then a great-grandmother.  She experienced six generations of love.  

• Aunt Sue loved scary movies and books.  I’m pretty sure that Aunt Sue owned every V. C. Andrews novel in existence. And even though most adults would probably consider these books to be wildly inappropriate for children, she let me read them in all their ghastly, salacious glory.  Thank you, Aunt Sue, for all the V.C Andrews and Stephen King novels you gave me over the years.

•  After we moved to Florida, my aunt told me that I would always have a home in Utah.  I truly believe she meant that, because when I was 19, I made a solo trip to Utah during the winter and came down with a spectacularly awful case of pneumonia.  Aunt Sue welcomed me into her home while I was running a fever and hacking germs everywhere. She took me to an urgent health clinic, filled my prescriptions, and nursed me back to health. She probably saved my life. 

Euology to My Aunt Sue (Part Two)

Words are entirely inadequate to describe how deeply my aunt is loved by those who knew her. It would be easier, perhaps, to count the stars in the endless sky. But here are just a few of my many memories of an extraordinary woman who filled the world with love and light.

•  My Aunt Sue radiated beauty, inside and out.  She possessed golden hair, a mischievous smile, and a passion for blue shadow.  She loved animals, especially dogs and alligators.  

•  My aunt had a strong work ethic. At Harmons, she worked hard for many years as a head cashier. I remember visiting her at work when I was little, watching her check out groceries with a bright smile. And on the front wall of that store hung a studio portrait of Aunt Sue, who looked so glamorous with her 1980’s bangs teased high with Aquanet.  I was so proud that she was my aunt. 

•  When I was five or six years old, I had to go to the hospital for about a week. I was very frightened and completely over being stuck with needles. When my Aunt Sue visited me, she lit the room with sunshine.  She gave me a stuffed animal: a yellow dog with pink ribbons, bright blue eyes and long lashes. 

•  Growing up, I had a lot of sleepovers with my cousins. Aunt Sue always made me feel welcome at their home, and I loved being there. We had so many family gatherings.  She loved throwing pool parties and BBQs. She kept her fridge stocked with what seemed like a hundred different types of soda so everyone could have what they liked. She always remembered her family on the holidays with presents and goodies.  She was just an incredibly thoughtful and generous person. 

• I remember a birthday pool party that my aunt once threw for my cousin Angie. She made homemade pizza.  She gave each kid a box of snappy pops and a full-size package of bubble gum.  And I thought those just were the coolest party favors ever.  

Eulogy to My Aunt Sue (Part One)

On March 8, 2023, my beautiful aunt Susette entered eternity.  She departed this life, surrounded by loving family, to rejoin her beloved husband and parents in the heavens.  She is survived by her children, Demond and his wife Pamela, Rory, and Angie and her partner Brett; her sisters Vicki and Pamela; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other family members whom she loved very much. 

Aunt Sue was born on February 19, 1955 in Salina, Utah, the precious firstborn daughter of Earl Dean and LaPreel Josephine Yergensen.  She grew up in Redmond, Kearns, and Granger.  When she graduated from Granger High in 1973, her proud parents gave her a red Mustang.  She met her future husband Robert Brent Davies at either a bowling alley or a keg party (I've heard conflict stories!), and on November 11, 1973, she eloped with him to Elko, Nevada. Together, they raised three beautiful children in Lakeridge and West Valley City.  My uncle Brent preceded my aunt in death on December 1, 2005.

My Aunt Sue enjoyed a long career at Harmons Grocery Store and enjoyed her retirement much much more.  She loved entertaining, gardening, camping, travelling, decorating for the holidays, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 






This was the last camping trip with my mommy. We went to Settlement Canyon, and we all loved it. We went on a little walk and I took this picture. We were all so happy, I'm so thankful for all the fun memories we shared with her. She truly was an Amazing Mother and friend. I'm going to miss her dearly for the rest of my life, until we are reunited. Love you Mommy.😘😍💝💞

I am so very sorry for the loss of your dear, sweet Susette. We all grew up across the street from Sue and I always thought she was so kind & beautiful. Cherish the memories and know that she is with her loved ones in heaven and watching over all of you!

When my mom passed away in 2011 she became my second mom. She was always there to help me and ang. I've known Sue for thirty years I was only 15 when me and Angie got together so she been a big part of my life. I'm sure going to miss her such a big heart ❤️ love you Sue. R.I.P.

One of my fondest memories is when I was a in a very bad accident with road rash covering my entire body, my sweet sister presented me with a Cover Girl eye shadow pallet and lip stick. We thought I would be so scarred, that I would need skin graphs. I was about 10, I think.  She also dressed up (in my mom's pink ball gown with rhinestones) like the tooth fairy, and gave me a toys and a princess puzzle. She always  dressed me up in her clothes with make up. She bought me a Valentine's Day skunk and brought home Lagoon prizes for me. She even sewed PJs for me.  She will never be gone from my heart. 🤗🌷

Susette was an Angel. Always and Forever more....
If love could have saved her, she would have lived forever.
