Tom grew up in American Fork where he found a passion for hunting, fishing, water skiing, golf and tennis. He later earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Utah where he also lettered in tennis. Following his graduation, he started his 30 year career at IBM in 1963 and joined the National Guard. Tom met the love of his life Annette "Woos" Hansen in 1964 and were later married October 1965. He adopted her son Ralph and they had two children together, Toby and Stacy Hansen.
Tom and Woos built a cabin in 1980 set in a beautiful cul-de-sac in the mountains surrounding Midway, Utah. In 1985, at the deck of the cabin they met a hungry Brittany-Springer Spaniel puppy who they adopted and named Muffin. Muffin was by Tom's side for 17 wonderful years. Tom made ample use of the cabin area including numerous trips to the Wasatch golf course and fishing trips to Strawberry Reservoir. Tom enjoyed the cabin for three decades, which included hosting a large family reunion, numerous friend and family gatherings.
Tom enjoyed his six grandchildren, Shannon, Andrea, Nina, Zachary, Michaela and Michael. He attended sporting events and played card games with them as much as his condition would allow. Tom believed strongly in higher education and set aside a scholarship program for his grandkids.
Tom is survived by his wife Woos, children Ralph (Julie) LeHew, Toby (Jenny) Hansen and Stacy (Dave) Willis. He is also survived by his grandchildren Shannon Reyna, Andrea Breeze-Earl, Nina and Zachary Hansen, and, Michaela and Michael Willis.
A celebration of Tom's life will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday October 1st at the Valley View Memorial Park & Funeral Home located at 4335 West, 4100 South. There will be a visitation period with the family prior to the funeral proceedings. The family requests that in lieu of gifts or flowers that a donation be made in Tom's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research . It will be a tribute to his courage, positive attitude, and steadfast determination not to surrender to such a debilitating disease.
