Virginia Lee Stinchfield McKay, 84 years old, precious wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma (#38), great-grandma (#47) and great-great grandma (#2), left this earth on June 18, 2014, which was coincidentally on their 59th Wedding Anniversary.
She was born in Meridian California on February 11, 1930 and went to school in Colusa, California. Her parents were Henry Maurice Stinchfield and Nona Esther Stinchfield. She is survived by her two brothers, Daryl and Kenneth Stinchfield.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints when she was twenty-three in February, 1953. She herself has been a great missionary bringing others into the Gospel.
She met and married the love of her life on June 18th, 1955, John Paley McKay, in Alhambra, California. When they met she had two girls and one boy on the way. John had two girls whom he soon gained custody of and together they had two more boys and a girl. The family was sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple on December 2nd, 1956.
There are 7 living children: Alana Lee Sweat, Audrey Jean Moghimi, Christine Lynn Montgomery, Deborah Jo Hudler, John David McKay, Glenn Allen McKay and Leland Henry McKay. Daughter, Shelly Rae Robison, died the month before our mother on 05/16/2014.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Esther Stinchfield, her baby brother Donny Stinchfield, her nephew Keith Wecker, sister Jenell Wecker, and two grandchildren Donavon Herndon and Emily Suzanne McKay.
She was a huge influence in most lives she touched, especially her grandchildren, whom have all benefitted from her wisdom, sense of humor and unconditional love.
She loved her Savior and family more than anything and taught us about prayer, faith and enduring to the end. One of the church callings she loved the most was Genealogy, which she worked tirelessly on for the past 55 years. She has accumulated over 10,000 family names, which, by-the-way was before computers. She was amazing.
She was very busy raising eight children while holding many church callings and having a husband who traveled a lot, but she also had time for Frank Sinatra, any musicals and old movies, of which us kids all took our turn listening and watching with her. She was also a voracious reader which she passed onto her children.
She had an amazing talent for writing poems. Words and thoughts came easily to her. They are inspiring to read.
She loved all things military and their commitment to our country. She instilled this pride and love to each of her children. She never let a service man in uniform pass by without hugging them and thanking them of their sacrifice for her.
She had a very generous soul and empathy for those in need. She was a good listener and our house was often full of those seeking advice, spiritual or otherwise.
She is now gone to be with her other family and friends whom we know she has missed so dearly. We know where she is and where to find her…we will miss her, of course, but never forget her. She was our mother who took care of us and now we will take care of her love and best friend, our Dad.
