

Wayne J Unsworth passed away July 5, 2025, at the age of 87 in his West Valley City home surrounded by the love and presence of his wife and children. Wayne’s life was defined by service, humility, faith, and an unwavering love for his family.
He was born January 10, 1938, in Salt Lake City to Ruhal “Ruel” Grant Unsworth and Margaret Jones in the LDS Hospital. He graduated from Cyprus High School and later married the love of his life Elinor Fae Mellor on August 7, 1958, in Salt Lake City Temple and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Wayne loved playing golf, volleyball, and cards with his family. He valued family above all else. He held a strong testimony of the gospel and served in many roles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He carried on the tradition of the Unsworth Reunion Camp Out, which was started by his grandfather.
As a mechanic, he would drop everything to help a family member or friend. He worked 47 years as a cement truck driver where he earned the respect of co-workers and customers. Later, with his love of golf, he worked as a highly respected Marshall at Westridge and Stonebridge Golf Courses.
His surviving relatives are his loving wife of 67 years, Elinor Fae Mellor; his children: Fae (Mike) Floyd, Danny (Suzanne) Unsworth, David (Mary) Unsworth, Carolyn (Kirk) Parker, Julee (Laura Mumford) Schacht, and Brent Unsworth; his siblings: Joyce Bergeson. Peggy Keele Lynne Peterson, Lloyd Wiliams, Jeannie Harris, Judy Haber, Larue Gilmore, LaRayne Dean, and Ruel Jr. Unsworth; he also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ruhal “Ruel” Unsworth; his mother, Margaret Jones; his stepmother, Donnette Callister; his sisters: Shirley Baker and Helen Dipo; and two infant great grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Hunter 2nd Ward. The viewings will be Sunday evening from 6-8pm (Valley View Funeral Home 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT) and Monday morning from 10-11 am at Hunter 2nd Ward.
Wayne’s gentle wisdom, playful humor, and unshakable devotion will be deeply missed—but never forgotten.
