1928 ~ 2014
Willem Cornelis Diepeveen (Bill or Wim) was born on December 13, 1928 in Rotterdam, Netherlands to Jan Jacob Diepeveen and Antonnetta van den Bergh. His mother unexpectedly died when he was a young boy, and his father soon after married Ammerentie van den Hurk. Willem passed away on July 7, 2014 in West Valley City, Utah. He was 85 years old.
He came with his family to Salt Lake City, Utah in September 1949. He fell in love at first sight with Margarete Grobben on January 1, 1951; they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in August of that year. They had five children together: Peggy, RJ, Susan, Jim, and John. They raised their family in Sugarhouse and Taylorsville areas. Bill was a hardworking man who was willing to take on any challenge to support his family. Eventually he spent the bulk of his career working in data programming, first at Litton Industries, and later at Northwest Pipeline. Bill was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife, Margarete, spent ten years as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple.
A long time scouter, Bill worked with hundreds of boys, teaching them the values of faith in God, hard work and outdoor skills. He loved the outdoors and spent time camping, fishing, and "4-wheeling" in his Volkswagen Bus. He also enjoyed running, cycling, coaching and refereeing soccer.
Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Margarete; and his children, Margaret Ann Nielson (Gerald), Randolph John, Susan Hansen (David), James William (Janell), and John Quentin (Brenda), 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
