William Tracy Malmstrom was born on July 29, 1971, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest of four children born to Elnora Jane Andersen and Jack Burdette Malmstrom. He passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side, on August 22, 2025, at Intermountain Medical Center after a battle with cancer.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Rebekah Taft and was later divorced. They had one son, Teagan Robert, who was the brightest light of his life and whom he loved with all his heart.
Bill was an active little boy who was always curious. When he saw neighbors outside working in their yards, he always wanted to help them, affectionately earning him the name, “Dennis the Menace.” Even as a child, his eagerness to serve and his playful spirit shone through.
Bill graduated from Taylorsville High School, where he had many friends. He loved playing golf every chance he had. He loved the outdoors, fishing with his dad, camping, and hunting with his family, especially with his nephews whom he grew up with. He loved watching basketball and football on television with his brother Kipp and his nephew Brian, whom he was best friends with his entire life. Bill’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved most.
He loved his parents very much and was always available to help them, often before they even asked. He was a master carpenter and designed and helped build his own beautiful custom-built home for his family, which took many months of hard work and became one of his proudest accomplishments.
When he was about 34 years old, just after completing his beautiful home, he contracted A.D.E.M, which changed his life forever, leaving him disabled and dependent on a walker and wheelchair for the rest of his life. Though his health was challenged, Bill’s spirit remained strong. He loved his family very much, especially his mother, and as she grew older, he helped his brother Kipp lovingly and tenderly tend to her needs until she passed away. His gentle devotion to her was a true reflection of his heart.
Survived by one son, Teagan Robert Malmstrom; two sisters: Jacqueline (John) Olsen, and Julie (Mike) Elllis; and one brother, Kipp Malmstrom.
Preceded in death by his father and mother; and twin nephews, Justin and Jason Leyba.
Bill will be remembered for his kind and generous nature, his deep love for his family, and the strength with which he faced life’s challenges. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
