Alexander White Patterson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 20, 2023, just a few months shy of his 92nd birthday. Alex was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, on March 25, 1931, to John Alexander Paterson and Flossie Pearl Zobrosky. Although he moved all over Canada during his childhood, he always considered Fort Frances, Ontario, to be his hometown.
Alex attended the University of Washington, where he earned a BS in geological engineering in 1957. That same year, he married the love of his life, Mayreen Bowman, and together they welcomed their first child, Kevin White. Alex, Mayreen, and baby Kevin ventured to Cerro de Pasco, Peru, to work in the silver mines, one of the highest cities in the world. When they returned to the United States a year later, they settled in Bothell, Washington, where they built their first home and welcomed a daughter, Dianne Lynn, and a son, Allen Douglas (Doug).
Alex then began working in the aerospace industry designing planes. He and Mayreen moved their young family to Marietta, Georgia, Fort Worth, Texas, and finally Southern California, where he worked for Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. In 1969, they settled in Fountain Valley and welcomed their youngest child, LeeAnn. In the late 1970s, Alex opened his own engineering company, Patterson Engineering, with offices in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley. He enjoyed having his own company so he could have more flexibility to do the things he loved.
Alex had a passion for hockey, which he started playing as a small child in his front yard. He played until he was 82 years old, and his dedication to the sport was featured in the Orange County Register as a spry 80-year-old doing what he loved, much to the admiration of younger players. Alex also loved the outdoors and was up for any adventure, whether it was skiing, snorkeling, sailing, rafting, or anything else. He loved to travel and would jump on a trip at a moment's notice. Slot machines also called him, and he was proud of the jackpots he won.
Above all else, Alex loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mayreen Patterson; daughter, Dianne Lynn (Sam Patton) Patterson; son, Allen Douglas (Diane) Patterson; daughter, LeeAnn Patterson (Dennis) Cochems. Grandsons; Jeremy (Melissa) Patterson, Jason (Amanda) Patterson, Cameron (Kaelee) Cochems, and Connor (Kennedy) Cochems, Ian Patterson, Alexander White (Caroline) Patterson, Andrew (Tayler) Patterson. Granddaughters; Brittany (Chris) Roberts, Rachel Patterson, Jennifer (Joseph) Glick, Katie (Jon) Michel; and six great-grandchildren. His son, Kevin White Patterson, preceded him in death.
The family of Alexander will be holding a funeral service in his honor on Saturday, April 15th, at 1 pm at Christ Pacific Church in Huntington Beach, California. The family requests that those attending dress in bright colors to celebrate Alexander's life. Alex will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who lived his life to the fullest and made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.westminstermemorial.net for the Patterson family.
