

Douglas Wayland George, Sr., of Huntington Beach, CA passed away on September 7, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 90. He was born in Hartford, CT on April 15, 1933, and lived in Connecticut for most of his life before moving to California in 2001, with his wife, Esther, of 43 years.
Doug joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old and was an Airman on the Bon Homme Richard during the Korean War. He was very proud of his service to his country.
He was a long-haul truck driver for 19 years and belonged to the Teamsters Union. After leaving trucking he worked at various jobs in a factory, in sales and lastly property management in El Cajon, CA.
Doug lost his central vision and was considered legally blind since 2011 and moved to Huntington Beach in 2012. He also suffered from COPD, which he kept under control with medication. He was the picture of health up until just a few short weeks ago and everyone was shocked when they learned his age. He had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor that everyone who met him enjoyed. He loved to listen to Blues music and loved to read mostly Science Fiction, Fantasy and the Bible.
His beloved son Daniel George, of Coventry, CT preceded him in 2006 in a fatal car accident. He leaves behind a wife, Esther, of Huntington Beach, CA, four children, Darlene Romano, of Manchester, CT, Douglas George, Jr., of Windsor Locks, CT, David George, of Newington, CT and Jodi Emond of Huntington Beach, CA. He also leaves eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in CA on Wednesday, September 27th at 2:00 pm.
