It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Magaña, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on September 27, 2024 at the age of 94. Born in Oceanside, California, Edward embodied the spirit of hard work and dedication throughout his life.
Edward attended Huntington Beach High School and completed his bricklayer apprenticeship, becoming a journeyman bricklayer. A proud lifetime member of the Bricklayer and Allied Craft Worker Union since 1956, he was a hard-working brick mason who took great pride in his craftsmanship and artistry. Edward contributed to the development of many notable projects in Orange County, including the Rossmoor Community, Leisure World (now Laguna Woods), and the Orange County Jail Intake and Release and many custom homes throughout the county. His artistry and dedication to his work were a testament to his commitment and passion and the love he had for helping others.
In 1951, Edward met the love of his life, Jenny Gomez, on 4th Street in Santa Ana at a social. They married in 1953 and built a beautiful life together, always being the center of each other’s worlds. Jenny fondly remembers Edward’s handsome appearance-his dark curly hair, plain white t-shirt, cuffed Levis, and his beautiful smile that could light up any room. He was a devoted husband, a nurturing father to their three children; Lydia Zuvich, Phil Magaña, and Irene Magaña and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. His family was his pride and joy.
Edward had a zest for life, enjoying road trips, fishing, bird watching, and cherished moments with family at home. He loved Sunday drives, playing checkers, Jenga, and Yahtzee, and was always ready for a friendly game. Those who knew him best described him as loving, strong, resilient, and loyal.
He is survived by his devoted wife of seventy-one years, Jenny; his children Lydia (Leo) Zuvich, Phil (Kathy) Magaña, and Irene Magaña (Mitch) Cherness; grandchildren Bruno (Kelli) Balderrama, Alison (Jayson) Garrett, Megan (John) Grange, Chelsea (Bobby) Matthews, Tiffany (Moe) Lyons, Shane Tyrrell (Gina Dakkis), Cayla (Kenny) Honeycutt, and Maggie Magaña; great-grandchildren Lexi Magaña, Alyssa Borunda, Mia Matthews, Brynn Balderrama, Liam Garrett, Rian Garrett, Moey Lyons, Meadow Lyons, River Grange, and Carlin Tyrrell Dakis; and sisters Maria Menear and Virginia Terronez. He was preceded in death by his mother Maria Terronez; brother, Frank Terronez; grandparents, Angelica and Luis Magaña; and his beloved pet, Rocky.
Edward will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His humble spirit, kindness, and dedication to family will forever be cherished in our hearts. A celebration of Edward's life will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 with a Visitation and Rosary beginning at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Westminster, Ca, where family and friends are invited to share memories and honor a truly remarkable man.
Edward will be laid to rest at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Huntington Beach, Ca.
