Our father was born October 6th, 1931 to a family of ten children and a loving mother and father. From a very young age he was forced to drop out of school to help support his siblings, which instilled in him the value of family and protecting it in every way he could. They moved around Cuba in search of work, where he found employment in a café that planted a seed in him. When he moved to Palma Soriano he met, my mother, Gloria and their friendship blossomed into a beautiful love. When his older brother, Benjamin, moved to the states to fight in the war, he attained American citizenship and was eventually able to bring the rest of his brothers along as well.
In 1955 Faustino moved to Miami where he started work as a dishwasher. With his passionate work ethic and undoubtable charm, he quickly moved up the ladder of the restaurant industry. After a few years of dedicated work, he returned to Cuba to marry Gloria and brought her back to the states with him. He struggled his way up for many years and in multiple states in order to support his own family. Despite having only a third grade education, he persisted with an unyielding drive to gain more experience and knowledge, a huge heart for people, especially servicing those in need, and an ever-growing love for his family that motivated him above everything else.
When I look back at his life, I can’t help but admire his incredible journey and reflect on all the blessings and guidance God provided. He was happily married for sixty-five years, had five children, nine grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. He was able to live the true American dream. He built up multiple businesses and invested those successes in his children and their children after. His dedication and generosity expand multiple generations.
His legacy is continued through business owners, college graduates, homeowners, doctors, athletes, teachers and artists. We were able to soar standing on the shoulders of this giant. I am infinitely grateful and so proud to have a father that sacrificed everything to see us succeed. I know that he is enjoying a well-deserved rest with our Lord, but his absence leaves a great void. One in which the light will fill when we see him again, welcoming us as he always has, with kindness, generosity, and love.
