Hilda Lila Otazu

Hilda Lila Otazu, de 67 años, falleció en paz el lunes 8 de mayo de 2023 en su casa en Arequipa, Perú. Nació Arequipeña el 19 de Septiembre de 1955. Sus padres, Domitila Morante y Antonio Paredes tuvieron 9 hijos; ella era la sexta de nueve hijos.

Hilda fue una mujer de admirable fuerza y determinación. Era un alma como ninguna otra que encarnaba el trabajo duro, la dedicación y siempre se esforzaba por lo mejor para su familia. Como la primera de sus 8 hermanos en venir a los Estados Unidos, ayudó a su madre, hermanos y hermanas a inmigrar a los Estados Unidos. Será recordada como una peruana trabajadora, honorable y cariñosa. Fue esposa, madre, hermana, tia y abuela. Sus pasiones en la vida eran su familia, jugar voleibol, música, bailar y sus plantitas.

Las pasiones de Hilda eran pocas, pero eran las que le traían una inmensa alegría. Era una ávida jugadora de voleibol y salía a la cancha todos los domingos con una feroz determinación de ganar. Llueva o truene, la encontraría lista para jugar el próximo juego. Su amor por el deporte coincidía con su amor por sus plantitas, que cuidaba con gran cariño y paciencia. Hilda pasaba horas con sus plantas y disfrutaba estar rodeada de la belleza de la naturaleza.

Hilda amaba una variedad de música y baile. Desde salsa, merengue, música rock de los sesentas en español e inglés, hasta huaynos del Perú y más. Se mantenía al tanto con la nuevas modas de música y bailes. En casa siempre había música tocando. En las fiestas, la encontraban en la pista de baile. En su tiempo libre, la encontraban creando sus playlists para agregar a su colección de música ecléctica.

Pero el amor más grande de Hilda era exclusivo para su familia. Como esposa, era amorosa y era la motivadora para lograr sus metas. Como madre, quería lo mejor para sus hijos y era su fan #1 en cada partido de fútbol, competencia de baile o actuación de la banda. Para muchos de sus hermanos y sobrinos, ella fue una voz de consejo. Para sus nietos, ella era la cariñosa abuelita que siempre estaba lista para preparar sus comidas favoritas. Y para todos, Hilda fue una ejemplaria luchadora y trabajadora.

A Hilda le sobreviven su esposo, Olger Otazu, sus 3 hijos, Janice, Jeff y Jaclyn y sus 2 nietos, Nathan y Mia.

Mientras lamentamos el fallecimiento de esta mujer ejemplaria, nos consuela saber que el legado de Hilda vivirá y nunca será olvidado. Aunque se haya ido, el espíritu de Hilda seguirá brillando, iluminando las vidas de todos aquellos que tuvieron la suerte de conocerla.

Los servicios serán los siguientes: El velorio se llevará a cabo el Viernes, 26 de Mayo de 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

La misa y el entierro se llevarán a cabo el Sábado, 27 de mayo de 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Hilda Lila Otazu, 67, peacefully passed away on Monday May 8th, 2023, in her family home in Arequipa, Peru. She was an Arequipeña; born on September 19th, 1955. Her parents, Domitila Morante and Antonio Paredes had 9 children; she was the sixth of nine children.

Hilda was a woman of admirable strength and determination. She was a soul like no other who embodied hard work and dedication and always strived for the best for her family. As the first of her 8 siblings to come to the United States, she helped her mother, brothers and sisters immigrate to the United States. She will be remembered as a hard-working, honorable, and caring Peruana. She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Her passions in life were her family, playing volleyball, music, dancing and gardening.

Hilda’s passions were few, but they were ones that brought her immense joy. She was an avid volleyball player. Stepping onto the court every Sunday with a fierce determination to win. Rain or shine you would find her ready to play the next game. Her love for the sport was matched by her love for plants, which she tended to with great care and patience. Hilda would spend hours with her plants and enjoyed being surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Hilda loved a wide variety of music and dancing. From Salsa, Merengue, Spanish and English 60’s Rock, to Huaynos of Peru and more. She kept up to date with the latest music trends and dancing fads. At home, there was always music in the background. At parties, you would always catch her on the dancefloor. In her spare time, you would find her putting together playlists to add to her eclectic music collection.

But Hilda’s greatest love was reserved for her family. As a wife, she was loving and was the push needed to reach their goals. As a mother, she wanted the best for her children and was their #1 fan at every soccer game, dance competition or band performance. For many of her siblings and nephews, she was a voice of advice. For her grandchildren, she was very loving and ready to prepare their favorite snacks. Hilda was an example of hard-work and determination.

Hilda is survived by her husband, Olger Otazu, 3 children, Janice, Jeff and Jaclyn and 2 grandchildren, Nathan and Mia.

As we mourn the passing of this strong woman, we take comfort in knowing that Hilda’s legacy will live on and will never be forgotten. Though she may be gone, Hilda’s spirit will continue to shine bright, illuminating the lives of all those who were lucky enough to know her.

The services will be as follows: Wake will be held on Friday, May 26th from 5:00pm -8:00pm.

Mass and Burial will take place on Saturday, May 27th from 9:30am - 12:00pm.
