In Memory of Dick "Peep" Jackson
Today, we were saddened by the news that Dick "Peep" Jackson has passed away. From his humble beginnings sweeping floors at Barris Kustoms to becoming the head painter and eventually opening his own shop, Dick's contributions to the industry will forever be remembered.
Starting as a teenager, Dick was mentored by Sam and George Barris, learning the craft of customizing cars while working on some of the most iconic vehicles in history, such as the Hirohata Merc. He went on to create innovative and popular designs like the fake spotlights, or "dummy spots," and the Sattel-Lites for 1957 Fords, both of which were sold to Cal Custom. His passion for customizing cars was evident in his own rides, from his first 1939 Chevrolet sedan to his iconic 1957 Ford Thunderbird.
We enjoyed meeting and hanging out with Dick at the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show. A friendly, down-to-earth guy and an inspiration to many in the custom car community. His impact on the industry and the people he worked with will never be forgotten.
As we share photos of Dick and his incredible work, we encourage everyone to celebrate his life and remember the indelible mark he left on the world of custom cars. Rest in peace, Peep. You will be dearly missed, but your legacy will live on through the countless vehicles you transformed and the lives you touched along the way.
