

Robert E. Gillett was born of January 19, 1920, to Frank and Grace Gillett in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He had two older brothers, Mo and Doc. He married his childhood sweetheart, Harriet DeHaes on September 16, 1941. They were married 65 happy years.
Robert was inducted into the Army in 1942, and served during the height of WWII. He served as a medic and was one of the first waves to land on Omaha Beach. He was awarded four battle stars for action in campaigns in Northern France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After the war, he returned to Minnesota, where he worked as a furniture salesman, and later drove a Pepsi truck. in 1950, the family moved to California. At that time, they had two daughters: Adair, age 2, and Yvonne, 6 weeks old. He pursued a career in the soft drink bottling business. In 1975, he started his own business, United Bottlers Supply Corp. and retired at the age of 71.
After retiring, he enjoyed traveling, playing golf, sitting with his buddies at the Huntington Beach pier, and playing pool and having lunch with his friends at the Senior Center.
Robert , A.K.A. Scotty, will be sadly missed. His generosity, humor, and gentle soul will provide guidance for us to go forward.
