Ruth Ellen Dills

Ruth Ellen Dills (81), of Fountain Valley, California, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022. She grew up in Lodi, California, and moved to Southern California in 1960 when she married Laurence Dills.

She dedicated her 35+ year career as a counselor and mentor to re-entry and marginalized students in the Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) and Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) programs at Coastline Community College, and earlier at Orange Coast College. She was passionate about giving guidance and support to those on an educational journey towards independence.

She was a fearless advocate, a passionate feminist, and a dedicated champion for equity and equality. Travel was one of her greatest passions and was thrilled to have traveled to Europe several times over the past decades.

Ruth is survived by her son, Eric Brian Dills and his husband, C. Scott Miller; her daughter, Leslie Lynnette Miller and her husband, David; her grandson, Jared and granddaughter, Jordan. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Bill North and his wife Caryl, and their sons, Robert and Patrick. She leaves behind numerous extended family members, friends and colleagues who loved and admired her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor. We ask you to join us in celebrating her life on January 25, 2023, at Westminster Memorial Park at noon.
