Santiago Antonio Jimenez was born in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico in 1945 to Antonio Jimenez and Margarita Valdivia. He later migrated to the us in 1973 with just his guitar where he began playing at tables in a small restaurant to organizing and directing his amazing fifteen piece orchestra which he is so well loved and known for his, Santanera!!!
Everyone knows Santiago as “Santiago y su Grupo”, for his prestigious performances and physical followers of over 40 years.
He was a lover of people near and far, everywhere he went people new him and loved him for his big heart. People loved just being in his company for a good debate and a belly busting joke. If there was a problem he always found the solution.
He was a normal man who made mistakes in his life yet accomplished many goals and forgiveness through Christ Jesus and the intercession of La Virgen de Guadalupe, who he was devoted to, for her miracles.
Santiago’s real band is his legacy of his family. He had 8 beautiful hard working children with his first wife Rosa Treviño and 4 loving, CHARISMATIC children with Celine Jimenez, yes 12 children in all. The true loves of his life were all his children. His most favorite and heart warming times were those spent with all his children united from both families, delicious meals and music.
He was the kind of man that would give you everything he had, even if it meant having empty pockets. He always said, “el dinero no es todo pero como calma los nervios!”
He bagan having heart trouble in December 12, 2019 in which he had heart surgery on the celebration day of La Virgin de Guadalupe. That day prior to his surgery he said a devout rosary in her honor. He entered surgery and died during the surgery. He told he heard a voice that said, “No te preocupes aquí estoy”. Doctors were able to revive him and place a pacemaker to keep his big heart pumping. Then just a week ago he began having complications again that took him back to surgery and most certainly back to the loving voice of the Virgin de Guadalupe.
