March 25, 1933 – November 23, 2023
Virginia “Jeanne” Agor, a passionate, affectionate, strong-willed and kind woman who cared deeply for the people around her, died peacefully on November 23, 2023, in Orange County, California. She was 90.
Jeanne was born in the Philippines on Saturday, March 25, 1933, the youngest of seven children.
She graduated from university with a B.S. in Nursing. She and her loving husband, Vicente (Vince) Agor, were married in 1958, and they moved to the United States soon after, settling in the Los Angeles area.
Cherished family photo albums document Jeanne’s life. One set of albums is filled with black and white photos, magically held in place with photo corners. Here, Jeanne is dressed like a Filipina Grace Kelly, in white gloves and a dress with a petticoat, while she stands next to Vince, who looks suave, dressed in military uniform. More photos show the first Christmases of each of her children, Eileen (Lynn), Vicente Jr., and Jeanne Rose. The big parties in Wilmington, which celebrated christenings, promotions, and family birthdays, are also captured in photos.
Moving forward in time, other albums securely hold moments of laughter and broad smiles in Kodachrome photos. These albums speak to Jeanne’s life well lived, while surrounded by family, cousins, and her comadres and compadres: a photo of Jeanne proudly standing next to the U.S. flag after she received her U.S. citizenship in 1968; Jeanne in her mod 70s sunglasses; photos of cross-country trips with the family by car to visit her sister and family in Ohio.
Vince retired in 1986 as an officer from the U.S. Coast Guard after 30 years, and Jeanne and Vince began their adventures to see the world, documented in albums from each country they visited. Their dream was to visit all seven continents, and they accomplished that goal together. Photos show Jeanne laughing in Holland while she stood in large wooden shoes meant for a giant. They bundled up in parkas for a photographer when they visited Antarctica. Smiling, they sat on a camel’s back at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
Even as the world moved into the digital age and photos largely remained on phones, Vince continued to fill albums with printed photos of Jeanne with their grandchildren, Zach, Jacob, and Phoebe, and their dad, Phil. Photos of Michael and Jeanne show her feeding carrots to the dogs, Patupat, or Bibingka.
Colorful photos show Jeanne and Vince standing proudly in the backyard garden, surrounded by the bounty of their efforts and hard work. They grew vegetables with Filipino names like upo, tarong, and ampalaya. They also grew fruits and vegetables with more familiar American names, like green beans, tomatoes, lemons, and persimmons. To receive a gift of fruits and vegetables from their garden meant you were part of the family. Jeanne often told her kids to “go across the street and bring this bag of vegetables to them.”
Her generosity went beyond her immediate family and friends. She was the social chair for the Coast Guard Officers Auxiliary Wives Club. Amongst the photos in the albums are certificates of honor from the California Senior State Assembly, for her Volunteer Service, and the City of Westminster for her Spirit of Volunteerism. Always young at heart, she and Vince delivered meals to the senior citizen community of Westminster via the Meals on Wheels program. When asked what she was doing that day, she said, “We are delivering meals to help the old people.” She was 76 at the time.
Jeanne and Vince celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October of 2023. A photo in an album and in a frame of the two celebrating their everlasting love and marriage is a cherished final memento.
Jeanne made an impact on many and will be forever missed. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Vince; her son, Vicente Agor, Jr., and his spouse Michael Pfeffer; her daughter, Jeanne Rose Carreon and her husband Phil Carreon; her grandchildren, Zachary Carreon, Jacob Carreon, and his wife Kylie Carreon, and Phoebe Carreon; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Eileen Agor; her parents, Miguel and Esperanza Beltran; her siblings, Rosa Beltran, Eliza Beltran, Miguel Beltran, Jr., Corazon Beltran, Wilfredo Beltran, and Lea Bernardo.
Services for Jeanne will be held on December 15, 2023, at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster, CA 92683.
