Alexander Goodwin Miles

On December 8th, 1931 Alex was born to Bert and Grace Miles. He was raised and lived his entire life in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He attended Assiniboia School and graduated from Weyburn High School. In 1955 he married Ilene Hunstad from Lake Alma, Saskatchewan and they began raising their family.

Alex was the founder and owner of Miles Agencies in Weyburn. Alex was passionate about his family and his community. His exemplary behaviour and work ethic served as a model for the people that he touched — be it the Weyburn City Council, the Rotary Club, or the Young Fellows Club (Past President). He was also involved in Long Term Care on a local, provincial and national level.

Alex loved sailing and skiing; his passions also included his first car — an Essex — and the CFL. Above all he had a genuine love for the prairie life, the farms, the farmers, the townspeople and the towns. He always wanted to hear your story, the stories of others.

Alex learned from the book of prairie life, and he put in an honest day's work in both fair and foul weather. To have friends you must be a friend first. Alex Miles had many friends.

Alex is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Grace Miles; wife, Ilene Miles; sisters, Renee Marx and Peggy York and daughter in law, Kathy Hildebrand.

Alex is survived by his children, Deborah Miles of Kamloops, BC; Shea Miles of Vancouver, BC; Leah (Darwin) Knibbs of Weyburn, Sk; Duncan (Vicki) Miles of Redlands, California; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Ilsa (Nathan), Stephanie (Jeff), Jeremy (Leah), Graham (Nicole), Blake, Ally, Ross and Stella; 14 great grandchildren; brother Ronald Miles as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A Service of Remembrance for Alexander was held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Grace United Church, 210 3rd St NE, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. For those unable to attend the service in person, the livestream event may still be viewed by logging into, “Fletcher Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services” Facebook page. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

The funeral lunch followed the interment at McKenna Hall Auditorium, Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
