Ed was born December 22, 1924, the eldest of five children of David and Helena Jones. They farmed in the Talmage area where Ed attended Ideal School along with his brothers Dick and Bob; sisters Betty and Gwen. His parents worked hard to provide for their family and enjoyed the years in Talmage as they were active in the community with friends and neighbours.
In 1949 Ed married Mabel (Dougherty) and they had two daughters, Lynda and Carol; divorced in 1957. During the 50s and 60s Ed lived and worked in Regina, Saskatchewan. Also did custom combining during the 60s from southern Saskatchewan to Texas. Life in the 70s was exciting for Ed. He went back to school and obtained his Electrician Journeyman's papers; then went to work for Pan Canadian until his retirement. On July 20, 1974 he married Joyce Bell (Metheral) and inherited extended family. Joyce and Ed spent 19 happy years together. They were involved with the Elks Club as well as other community events. Both enjoyed travelling -- one special trip being to Barbados. Camping took them all across Canada visiting family and
friends. Ed loved taking pictures and always had a camera in hand at Pan Canadian social functions and the many family gatherings, and there were many of those. Ed liked to draw for the grandchildren and in his retirement years took art classes at Signal Hill Art Centre. He loved good food and especially enjoyed taking in the Fall fowl suppers, local fairs and ballgames.
In April, 1993 Ed lost his beloved Joyce in death. He filled his time enjoying the grandchildren whom he loved to tease. He always had a twinkle in his eye. He loved to tell stories and always laughed along as he told them. He was a valued member of "coffee row" spending countless hours downtown with friends and former co-workers. Ed spent the last few years as a resident of Legion Towers and most recently in Crocus Villas Nursing Home due to failing health.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, brother Bob, sisters Betty and Gwen, and daughter Cheryl Ann Banks.
Ed will be fondly remembered by his family -- brother Dick (Connie) Jones, Lynda Jones and her children Aryn and Kara Piragoff; Carol (Richard) Hertel and their children Matthew (Joanne) and Abbey and her fiancé, Peter Follings; together with Broyna (Larry) Ortman and their children Mike and Tracy; Trevor (Shannon) Bell and daughters Dawna and Alison; Wayne (Alice) Bell and twins Tami and Todd; Donna (Marvin) Rode and children Brad, Brent and Melissa as well as their spouses and 14 great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews and their families.
