Gladys Elsie Hunstad was born on March 30, 1930 at Oungre, SK and she passed away peacefully at the Crocus Plains Villa on Monday August 17, 2015. She married Harold Hunstad on July 14, 1954 in Weyburn, with the reception at Colgate, Saskatchewan. They started out their married life living in Lake Alma and eventually Harold bought the George Olson farm. They raised their six children on the farm. She taught us many values such as: working hard, the importance of having family time such as: meals, family holidays, visiting family for birthday’s, laughing, having faith, helping others without expecting anything in return and supporting the community that you live in. These were all things that were important to her. Gladys had many passions and one of them was sewing new outfits for her two daughters. She loved to sew, if there was a hole in a pair of pants they were patched, if there was something that was worn out or changed, something new was made out of it. She loved to quilt and made many quilts in the basement of the farmhouse for the household to stay warm in. Gardening and flowers were another passion of hers and she grew a large garden that kept her busy all summer and fall with canning and freezing. She loved her peonies in the front of the house and her snap dragons. She would plant flowers in many different containers, she loved color! Gladys loved to teach others what she loved to do. She taught many girls in the 4H club to knit and cook. She taught the new daughters-in-law from the city, how to clean chickens, make bread and buns, how to can fresh produce from the garden, plus much more. When we were young children, there were evangelistic meetings, being held in the Gladmar Lutheran church. It was at one of those meetings, that mom repented and gave her live to Jesus Christ. Because of that event she became very active in the church, attending bible studies, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and being part of the Ladies Aid group, organizing lunch and meals for many events and singing in the church choir. In 1982 Harold and Gladys built a new house in Lake Alma. They sold their house in 2008 and moved into Radville at the Golden Heritage. In the fall of 2010 Gladys moved into the Crocus Plains villa and there she remained until she passed away. Gladys will be missed by many.
