Lillian was born on the homestead eight miles north of Lake Alma to Frank and Ida Wick, the ninth child in a family of ten. Lil started school at the age of seven and completed grade eight, the highest grade offered at Pepper School. She was twelve years old when she made her first trip to town with $0.25 to spend. Lil married Sam Bendickson, just short of sixty-seven years ago, on September 30, 1944 in Plentywood, Montana. They met at a dance in Lake Alma and have been best friends ever since. Born a farmer’s daughter, the love of farming would remain strong throughout her life. One of her greatest joys was to work side by side with Sam and Terry. This way of life continued on their farm at Gladmar for sixty-two years. Lil’s daily enjoyment came from caring for her family. Although Lil called herself an outdoor girl her talents in the home and her caring way have given us some of our fondest memories. Lil loved being from a small town and was an active supporter and participant in the community. She became a city girl for the first time five years ago when Lil and Sam retired to Weyburn. Living in Bison Manor gave Lil an opportunity to make many new friends while still holding her “old” friends near to her heart. On Sunday, September 4, 2011 Lillian Olga Bendickson was welcomed home. As Lil would say “and so it goes.”
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Ida and Frank Wick; brothers, Bennett, Ingard, Bennie, Orville and Ernie Wick; sisters, Gladys Wick and Florence Dionne and great grandson, Jack Luke.
Lillian is survived by her husband of 66 years, Sam Bendickson; son, Terry (Kathyrn) Bendickson; daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Luke and Marla (Garth) Hurford; grandchildren, Christi (Phil) Shworak, Craig (Aleta) Bendickson, Blair (Mandy) Bendickson, Colin (Tanya) Luke, Kevin (Fiona) Luke, Darin (Tracy) Bendickson, Trevor Hurford, Steven Luke (Nicole), Brent (Leeta) Hurford, Leah Hurford; great grandchildren, Tanner Bendickson, Connor Bendickson, Samuel Bendickson, Chloe Shworak, Christian Luke, Stirling Luke, Ellie Bendickson, Michael Shworak, Ben Luke, Nathan Bendickson, Holden Luke, Henry Bendickson, Mya Bendickson, Avery Luke and Essa Hurford; sisters, Alice (Bob) Schreder and Norma Lohse; sister in law, Clara Fladeland as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
