Morris was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Cora Mellon, as well as his son, Harold. As a young man, Morris married and started a family, leaving the farm to pursue other opportunities. He worked in northern Manitoba nickel mines for a few years, eventually returning to the farm after the youngest child arrived. Outside of farming, Morris ventured into several entrepreneurial pursuits such as the conversion of the theatre in Ogema into the bowling alley, operating a small upholstery business out of his garage, and establishing a Belarus farm equipment dealership in Lang, SK. He eventually moved to Regina and became a Commissionaire, where he enjoyed visits with people as the parking attendant at the Pasqua Hospital and eventually settling into retirement.
Morris was actively involved with the Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge, obtaining Grand Master status in 1988. He was also a FreeMason and, after the care provided to his son Harold by the Shriner’s Hospital in Boston, Morris became a Shriner.
Morris was very social and enjoyed music, dancing, curling, playing cards and travelling. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to be anywhere there were people. Some of his greatest struggles proved to be his greatest strengths. He was generous, compassionate and kind and would not hesitate to befriend anyone down on their luck.
Morris is lovingly remembered by his children Robert (Iryna), Karin (Darrel) and Dennis (Gaylene); grandchildren Michael, Brittany, Shea, Chase, Denica, Marissa, Gatlin, Berlin and Sarah; great grandchildren Hunter, Mikayla, Leah and Lucy. He will be greatly missed by his brother Larry (Arnetta), his twin sister Beverly (Bud) and their families.
Morris’ children would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Regina Pasqua Hospital, the staff on 5E at the Regina General Hospital and the staff at the Weyburn General Hospital, as well as the Home Care Staff who cared for him.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lung Sask to support COPD research.
